Chakra is an ancient term that we continue to use today. The most widely accepted translation of that term you will find today is wheel – not just because they are usually given the circular shape of the wheel. It is more to do with the description of the motion of the wheel – turning round and round.
The ancient mystics regarded the energy within and around the body and noticed that where one or more streams of energy met, they would naturally converge and begin to spin around, hence the term. Although there are more ,it became generally accepted that there were Seven Major Chakra points to the human body.
These main Seven Chakras are found along the entire length of the spine. Starting at the very bottom of the spine is the Base Chakra, next comes the Sacral Chakra – below the navel. Then there is the Solar Plexus – slightly above the navel.
Naturally, the Heart Chakra is located in the region of the heart and it is no surprise that the Throat Chakra is found in the throat.
Then we come to the Chakras of the head; The Third Eye is in the area of the forehead and the Crown Chakra rests right at the top of the skull.
These energy centers do not just face forwards, affecting the front of your body, they are 3 dimensional and affect the entire region around them. This is easiest to imagine with the Throat Chakra – it affects not just the throat area but the neck too.
I see them as like miniature suns – they radiate energy out all the way round not just in any one direction. Actually they are so much more than that – they don’t just radiate energy outwards – they attract and absorb it in too.
You may not be able to see them with your eyes but you can become much more aware and conscious of them. I firmly believe it is an advantage to be more aware of your Chakras and their energy. They have links with just about every area of our lives and can reveal some very useful and important information about us.
Although the term ‘Chakra’ is thousands of years old, it doesn’t mean that it holds no relevance for you and I today. In the fairly recent past it has been found that each of the main seven Chakras ‘happens’ to coincide with a major nerve plexus of the body. Each one is also associated to its’ own specific endocrine gland.
I have found some of the most profound readings I have had the privilege to be part of have incorporated not just the spiritual essence related to the chakra but the more human, down to earth stuff. The ‘stuff’ I talk of is the more human side, how our energy is affected by our emotions and how that can reveal itself physically. There are often conscious and subconscious streams of information waiting to be revealed.
